Manager: ‘Possibilities are endless’ for Brandon Moreno, Mexican MMA after UFC title win

"

Iridium Sports Agency CEO and founder Jason House has his first UFC champion – and he’s already mulling over the possibilities of what’s next.

Overseeing the first Mexico-born titleholder in promotional history, House thinks newly crowned UFC flyweight champion Brandon Moreno’s ceiling for stardom inside and outside the cage may not exist.

After a year of fan absence from the promotion’s events, Moreno’s stardom became apparent throughout UFC 263 fight week. A fan favorite at the pre-fight news conference and weigh-ins, Moreno stole the show when he submitted Deiveson Figueiredo in their co-main event title fight.

“I’ve got to be honest, the minute he won, I just put my head in my hands and started to cry,” House recently told MMA Junkie. “From an agency standpoint, it was 12 years of hard work. Our whole team here at the agency has been working for this one moment. That journey with Brandon and our relationship (our families are very close, and I know all the adversity that Brandon has gone through), it was just an accumulation of so much emotion.”

As Moreno celebrated in the cage and the belt was placed on his shoulder, Mexican flags were populous among the thousands in attendance. Like past champions who were the first of their native country, Moreno has an opportunity to become an icon, according to House.

“I definitely feel the doors are open right now for him to walk through in a multitude of facets,” House said. “I think, one, he’s going to be the torch bearer of MMA into Mexico. Now that they have a Mexico-born champion, the country is really going to rally behind Brandon. That’s going to be very good on one end. On a second end, I think it’s going to open up a lot of possibilities for him. Being the first Mexican champion, he’s really going to propel himself into stardom.”

While the world slowly returns to normal in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, precautions vary from country to country. As soon as Mexico returns to the point that largely populated events are permitted, House foresees the UFC hurrying to schedule a card based around Moreno.

“Hosting an event in Mexico in the near future would be amazing for Brandon and for the country and for everyone coming up,” House said. “There’s a lot of great talent in Mexico right now in MMA. I just feel like Brandon is opening those doors for the next generation.”
