Pedro Carvalho releases statement following Bellator 252 KO loss to Patricio Freire
Pedro Carvalho will not let Thursday’s result discourage him from his ultimate goal.
The Bellator featherweight contender suffered a first-round knockout loss in a title fight with Bellator lightweight and featherweight champion Patricio Freire (31-4 MMA, 19-4 BMMA) in the main event of Bellator 252 in Uncasville, Conn. The bout was both a title fight and a quarterfinal in the Bellator featherweight grand prix.
Carvalho (11-4 MMA, 4-1 BMMA) was stopped at the 2:10 mark of round one after getting wobbled on the feet by the champion. The defeat snapped a six-fight Carvalho winning streak.
On Friday, the 25-year-old took to Twitter to address the defeat.
“Training back like normal, nothing changed, everything is the same,” Carvalho said in a video. “Of course I am disappointed with myself and with the result, but hey, it is what it is.
“Like my coach (John) Kavanagh says, ‘You win or you learn,’ and without a doubt this defeat will make me go to the top and will give me the tools that I need to get to the top. Nothing changed. For the ones the love me or hate me, I’m still the same Pedro who says he’s the best in the world and is going to prove he’s the best in the world. Nothing changes.
“Thank you everyone for the amazing support. It was amazing it was fantastic, thank you very much. I’ll be back.”
