After notching her first UFC finish, Priscila Cachoeira is hunting for more.

Cachoeira (9-3 MMA, 1-3 UFC) meets Gina Mazany (7-4 MMA, 2-4 UFC) in the featured prelim of Saturday’s UFC 262 card at Toyota Center in Houston where she’ll look to string together her first winning streak since 2017.

It’s been over a year since the 32-year-old Brazilian has competed, and she admits her past outing, a “Performance of the Night” knockout of Shana Dobson, has kept her afloat during that time off. But now she’s looking to replicate that performance against Mazany in what she hopes will be an all-out standup battle.

“I’ve studied her game closely,” Cachoeira told MMA Junkie in Portuguese. “My strategy is based on that. She likes to strike, and so do I. If she wants to grapple, that’s fine, too. I’ve been working hard with my training partners, and I continue to evolve. In the end, my preference is to see a striking war. Most fans seem to agree. I love putting a show in the octagon. I hope she wants to strike too. I see myself winning by knockout, no doubt.”

It’s been a rough start to Cachoeira’s UFC career, but she’s fortunate to still be fighting on the biggest stage. Her promotional debut was against current flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko, who inflicted a ton of damage on her, before choking her out in the second round. Then she dropped two consecutive decisions to Molly McCann and Luana Carolina, which put her on the chopping block.

But the UFC decided to give her one more opportunity, one that she capitalized on in emphatic fashion.

“I feel the extra chances I got in the UFC came from that bout against Valentina Shevchenko,” Cachoeira said. “I absorbed 253 strikes to one. My meniscus and (knee) ligament blew up right at the start of the fight. I was hopping on one foot. I trained in all areas, including takedown defense. My body just wouldn’t respond.

“I think the UFC kept believing in me due to the warrior’s spirit I displayed. Besides that, even though I lost decisions to Molly McCann and Luana Carolina, they were competitive matches. Fans agreed that, even in losses, I put on great fights. I was applauded for my efforts. Thankfully, in my last outing, I had a beautiful KO win resulting in a ‘Performance of the Night’ bonus. From that, my contract was renewed. I’m very thankful.”
