‘T-rex’ arms keep Max Holloway from banking on size advantage over Frankie Edgar

EDMONTON – UFC featherweight champ Max Holloway will tower over Frankie Edgar at UFC 240. But when they trade punches, they’ll be on an even playing field.
Although Holloway (20-4 MMA, 16-4 UFC) is five inches taller than Edgar (23-6-1 MMA, 17-6-1 UFC) at 5-11, he’s only got one inch longer in reach with 69 inches. So he doesn’t make much of his physical advantage.
“Everybody says, ‘You’re taller than these ’45ers,’” Holloway told reporters, including MMA Junkie, at a media day for Saturday’s pay-per-view at Rogers Place. “I’m like a T-rex. I’ve got little short arms.
“Jose Aldo had a longer reach than me. All these guys have a longer reach than me. But it is what it is. My legs are long for some reason – maybe I slept too much when I was younger.”
Holloway obviously made his stature work for him in the octagon. And what he lacks in physical advantages, he makes up with strategic ones.
“This game is all about inches and distance, so I can’t wait to go out there and find mine,” he said.
