UFC 219 play-by-play and live results

LAS VEGAS – MMAjunkie is on scene and reporting live from today’s UFC 219 event, and you can join us for live play-by-play and official results beginning at 7:30 p.m. ET (4:30 p.m. PT).

“UFC 219: Cyborg vs. Holm” takes place at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FS1 and UFC Fight Pass.

In the main event, women’s featherweight champion Cris Cyborg (18-1 MMA, 3-0 UFC) puts her title on the line for the first time when she meets former bantamweight champ Holly Holm (11-3 MMA, 4-3 UFC). In the co-feature, Khabib Nurmagomedov (24-0 MMA, 8-0 UFC) puts his unbeaten record on the line in a lightweight fight against Edson Barboza (19-4 MMA, 13-4 UFC).

Current fight

Marvin Vettori vs. Omari Akhmedov

Round 1 – Akhmedov with a leg kick to open. Vettori smiles and looks ready to trade punches. Akhmedov again with a low kick. Vettori shaking his hands, looking to punch, but he ends up firing a kick to the body. Vettori moving forward, but Akhmedov is retreating well and countering when possible. Vettori with a knee to the chin, but Akhmedov walks through it. Akhmedov firing big punches now. Left hand lands. Right hand scores. This guys are firing bombs. Akhmedov getting the best of it right now. Left hand lands. Uppercut just misses. Vettori still firing back, but he’s just out of range. Vettori things takedown, but Akhmedov pushes him away. Low kick for Vettori. He lands another knee, and Akhmedov just smiles. Vettori the aggressor, but Akhmedov landing the bigger punches. Left scores for Akhmedov. Right lands. One minute left. Akhmedov decided to shoot, but Vettori stands him up. Pace finally slowing a bit. Vettori talking and smiling. Round ends, and MMAjunkie gives it to Akhmedov, 10-9.

Round 2 – Low kicks traded to start. The big punches quickly follow suit. Akhmedov shoots inside, but Vettori defends against the fence and locks in a kimura, taking the action to the floor. Akhmedov defends well, but Vettori turns his attention to a triangle choke. It appears threatening, but Akhmedov waits through it and is able to escape. Vettori doesn’t want to stay on his back, so he scrambles free, and we reset on the feet. Akhmedov visibly tiring but also smiling and launching huge haymakers. Vettori avoiding well. He’s breathing heavily, as well. Akhmedov with a spinning backfist. Vettori pushes into the clinch, but Akhmedov circles off. Battle for position, and they ultimately back away and reset. Akhmedov misses a kick and spins. He looks exhausted. He does land a crisp left. Vettori just walks through it. Both men drop their hands, and Akhmedov still smiling. Vettori punches into a clinch and takes a moment to wipe at his eyebrow. Something bothering him there, but he doesn’t seem cut. They break again and finish on the feet. MMAjunkie gives it to Vettori, 10-9.

Round 3 – Vettori with a low kick to open. He’s pushing forward. Akhmedov still winging big hooks, but Vettori staying just out of range. Counter for Vettori scores. Flying knee for Vettori and a flurry of punches follow. Akhmedov covers up and survives and then smiles as the crowd cheers. Left hand for Vettori. Akhmedov’s face is busted up. Blood streaming from his nose. Akhmedov pushes inside, but Vettori able to push him to the fence. Both men tired. Vettori pulls away and lands a straight left. Vettori getting the best of it. Brief pause as Akhmedov loses his mouthpiece. On the restart, both me throwing bombs again. Great chin from both fighters. They push into the clinch. Nothing there, so they reset in the center. Vettori with a high kick that lands. Straight punches behind it. Vettori with a kick to the body. Akhmedov still refusing to go away. He’s breathing deep and looking to get something going. Instead, Vettori able to push him to the floor. Akhmedov tries to sit up, but Vettori threatens the neck, moving the action back to the floor. Vettori stays on top until the end. MMAjunkie gives the final round to Vettori, 10-9, awarding him the fight 29-28.

Mark De La Rosa vs. Tim Elliott

Round 1 – Elliott with a few searching low kicks to start. He changes levels and shoots inside, and De La Rosa tries to grab the neck as they fall. Elliott quickly clears the legs to relieve pressure, and they scramble for position. Guard for De La Rosa, and he turns out to attempt on bar. He’s in good position, though Elliott defends well, holding his arm and stacking his opponent. Elliott lifts De La Rosa high in the air and slams him but can’t pull free. He tries again and finally pulls free. De La Rosa turns and exposes his back, but Elliott can’t secure the position. Scramble as Elliott tries to attack the legs, and ultimately Elliott winds up back on top. Big elbow from Elliott followed but a few short punches. De La Rosa maintains guard. Two minutes left. Elliott staying busy on top. De La Rosa tries again for the arm, but Elliott prevents the leg from coming across his face. De La Rosa trying to stay busy. He turns to his knees, and Elliott grabs the neck. He drops back for the guillotine. He rolls over to the top side but lets go of the choke. De La Rosa turns again, and Elliott is on his back He tries to attack, but De La Rosa able to scramble free. Still, Elliott again winds up on top. Bell sounds, and MMAjunkie gives it to Elliott, 10-9.

Round 2 – Elliott walks forward and lazily flashes a kick. De La Rosa grabs it, and Elliott happily grabs the neck and works to the floor. De La Rosa on defense. Elliott looking at multiple options, flowing through attacks, but De La Rosa wisely answering every challenge. De La Rosa able to work back to guard, and Elliott punches away. De La Rosa tries again for the arm. Not there, and Elliott able to slip and move into an anaconda. Slick work, and he’s squeezing. De La Rosa won’t go away easily, but he’s trapped. Elliott continues to crank and get the tap. Emotional win for Elliott.

Louis Smolka vs. Matheus Nicolau

Round 1 – Both men rifle out jabs to start. Smolka kicks low, but Nicolau counters over the top. Nicolau moving well, and he laces in a big right hand. Smolka answers with a left to the body. Smolka moving forward, but he walks right into another right hand. He seems OK, but Nicolau has landed a few big shots early. They continue trade on the feet, and Nicolau lands again, sending Smolka to the canvas. Nicolau on top as Smolka scrambles to try and recover. Smolka starts looking to attack from his back, and Nicolau just backs away. Action restarts on the feet, and another crisp right hand clips Smolka and sends him to the floor. Nicolau jumps on top with a few elbows. He sets up the arm-triangle choke. Smolka is trapped but guts his way through it, and Nicolau has to let go. Back on the feet. Smolka looks a little dazed, and he’s casually moving forward. Nicolau looking to land the big shot.Two punches land, and Smolka wobbles to the fence. Nicolau keeps up the attack, and Smolka is down again. Smolka attacks the leg from his back, but the round ends. MMAjunkie gives it to Nicolau, 10-8.

Round 2 – Smolka pushes out to the center. He tries to change levels, but Nicolau pushes him away. Another right hand for Nicolau. His striking is on point. Smolka trying to find an answer. He throws a high kick that’s blocked. Nicolau happy to retreat and counter. Left hand for Nicolau. Smolka is busted up. Blood streaming around his right eye. Referee John McCarthy is watching closely. Nicolau just moving around and picking apart his foe. The left hook lands again. Smolka tough as nails, moving forward and trying to turn things around. Nicolau just a little quicker and incredibly accurate. Smolka does land a nice right hand. A second follows to get Nicolau’s attention. Smolka kicks to the body. Jab for Nicolau. Right hand behind it. Left hook. Nicolau back in control. Smolka high kick misses. Nicolau with a left to the body and another hook up top. One minute left. Smolka still looking to press, but Nicolau countering well. They’re trading shots in the pocket. Nicolau lloks unbothered by it. Round ends, and MMAjunkie gives it to Nicolau, 10-9.

Round 3 – Smolka aggressive on the start, looking to get some momentum. Nicolau still looks fresh enough, slipping and countering. Nicolau catches a kick and sweeps Smolka’s base leg. Nicolau follows to the floor but quickly backs away. Smolka still moving forward, but Nicolau lands the left hand. Smolka having some success, but Nicolau answers back every time. Smolka with a right hand. He moves forward, but Nicolau drives through with a takedown. Smolka tries to grab the neck as he falls but can’t get it. Nicolau looking to attack but then again backs away, preferring to strike and stay from the grappling. Smolka is game in trying to attack, but Nicolau just a step ahead. Nicolau with a sweet trip and slam to the floor. He briefly has another shot at the arm-triangle, but Smolka scrambles free. Nicolau slips aroud to the back. He’s hunting the choke. It’s there, but Smolka refuses to give in. Somehow he makes it through and turns. Nicolau shifts to the armbar, but Smolka turns to work free. All heart from Smolka. Still, the round ends, and MMAjunkie gives it to Nicolau, 10-9, giving him the fight 30-26.
