John Dodson vs. Jimmie Rivera

Round 1 – Rivera leads with a hard leg kick. The next one gets a flurry of counters from Dodson, which miss. They reset. Dodson goes low himself. Body kick draws another swarm from Dodson, which prompts Rivera to wrap him up against the cage. They break quickly, and Rivera goes back to the leg. Rivera counters a pair of jabs with a hook. High kick nearly catches Rivera. So far, a fight in fits and starts. Rivera nails the leg again. Dodson gets caught closing the distance, and Rivera tries to slam him, but is blocked by a leg. Rivera with a nice jab off a leg kick. Rivera goes back to the leg. Lots of feints from both. They trade power punches off counters. Rivera tags Dodson in close on the next exchange. Dodson blitzes Rivera and lands a glancing shot, and Rivera catches him with a quick counter before they reset. Rivera good on Dodson’s next close. He catches a kick and fires back as time ends. MMAjunkie scores the round 10-9 for Rivera.

Round 2 – Dodson charges to meet Rivera, who pops him with a leg kick. Dodson in again with a quick combo, and he’s a little off. Rivera again with the inside leg kick. Heavy exchange of punches in the pocket, and both are off target. Dodson catches a body kick and tries to convert it into a counter, but he loses control of the leg. Rivera slips in a rigtht. Dodson rips the body with a kick. Dodson checks the low kick. Another clash nets nothing. Audience losing its patience. Dodson tries to get around Rivera to the lead hand, and he’s just a bit off. A head kick attempt is almost good, and Rivera presses in to get one back. Dodson resets, and Rivera keeps the pressure on. Dodson short on a straight left. Rivera keeps moving forward. He’s trying to get around Dodson, who spins with a backfists and misses. Very tactical fight. Both fighters trying to get around each other’s power hand. Rivera goes low and lands south of the border, and we pause. Rivera goes high with a kick. He’s getting more active, but Dodson is evading him. So far, these guys are mostly canceling each other out. Body kick for Dodson can’t be converted to takedown by Rivera. Dodson goes again to the body as the round ends, and MMAjunkie scores the second for Dodson, 10-9, and it’s even at 19-19.

Round 3 – Dodson immediately counters a low kick. They’re almost toe-to-toe, feinting with the lead hand. Rivera lands a right hook that pushes Dodson back, and a leg kick to follow. A nice straight right by Rivera. Dodson tries to come back, and he’s short. They trade leg kicks, and Rivera presses in. Crowd boos. They’re pawing with jabs and not doing much. Hooks from both miss. Rivera goes straight to the body. Dodson nearly swept by a counter kick off of his. Dodson just looks like he’s having an off night. The speed is there, but he’s tentative and hesitant to engage meaningfully. Rivera, meanwhile, is putting together consistent combos and scoring. Front kick for Dodson, and Rivera comes back with a left straight. They clash with a exchange, and Rivera slips before recovering. Left hook good as Dodson exits an exchange. Dodson’s attack is defused, and Rivera stays on him. Dodson now moving more to avoid, and Rivera catches him with a pair of hooks. Short time. Both think about attacks and withdraw. Rivera with a straight right. They trade a few shots, and they beat each other’s body’s with about five punches each as time expires. MMAjunkie scores the frame 10-9 for Rivera, and he gets the 30-27 score.

Round 1 – Price pops Alhassan off a leg kick. Alhassan closes again and lets it go, and both miss on the counter. Heavy shots exchanged, and Alhassan nails Price with a few shots. Price tries to fire back, then slips on a leg kick, and Alhassan nails him solid when he gets up. Alhassan keeps firing, and Price takes a pair of hooks that put him out on his feet. His legs go, and Alhassan has another highlight reel win on his resume.

Carla Esparza vs. Tatiana Suarez

Round 1 – Suarez in early with kicks and jabs. Suarez ducks under a counter early and gets a definitive takedown. Punches from up otp from Suarez. Esparza tries to wrap an arm. Big elbows from Suarez, who slams Esparza on her back when guard is closed. More elbows. Esparza tries to cage walk, but she’s pushed back to the canvas. Big elbows. Esparza trying to trap an arm and having no luck. Hematoma under Esparza’s right eye. Again, she tries for an arm. When that doesn’t work, she sits up against the cage. But Suarez traps her legs. Esparza gets to her feet only to be tossed back to the mat. More ground and pound. Esparza uses her legs to create space and get up. When she sits, Suarez goes back to the torso. Post hand taken away by Suarez who’s knee on belly. Now side control, and more hammerfists are tagging Esparza. Finally, some space, and Esparza gets up. Suarez is at her back and hooks a leg with short time. Esparza gets upright, and time runs out. MMAjunkie scores the round 10-8 for Suarez.

Round 2 – Suarez leads with high kicks and side kicks, and again, she ducks under a punch counter to get an easy takedown. Esparza pops up against the cage and turns while Suarez has her waist. Esparza can’t get free, and Suarez is inching toward mount. Esparza manages to get up, and they trade knees. Suarez won’t let her go. Esparza gets free, only to be clinched and stuffed to the cage. Another body lock opens a slam, and Esparza is on her back with Suarez in side control. Ground and pound starts. Esparza tries to triangle the head. Suarez misses the mount and settles for the guard. Punches and elbows from the top. Esparza shrimps to the cage and stands. Suarez still has the body lock, and after a missed attempt, she puts Esparza down in side control. Esparza rolls out of nowhere and gets to front headlock. Whizzer prevents another takedown, and Esparza is back on her feet. Suarez fires a high kick and goes back in for another takedown. Back in side control, and Suarez is working short elbows as Esparza tries to triangle the head. MMAjunkie scores the frame 10-9 for Suarez, who’s up 20-17.

Round 3 – Of course, side kick from Suarez, and Esparza is the one with the shot. Suarez blocks it, and Esparza flurries with her hands before Suarez ducks under the shoots. Esparza nearly reverses, but Suarez turns her and gets a body lock. Esparza stands and gets slammed to the mat. Side control, and Esparza recovers guard. The ex-champ tries to isolate an arm. The position isn’t there. Esparza scrambles to her hands and knees and immediately gets her head triangled, forcing her back down. Suarez advances to mount, but Esparza bucks her off. Past the halfway point. Suarez back to work with elbows. She passes to side control and elbows the body. Back in guard, Suarez again with punches and elbows. Esparza tries to grab and arm and winds up on bottom in side control. Suarez to quarter mount, then full mount. Elbows force Esparza to turn, and she’s taking heavy shots. Guard is recovered, but the ensuing punishment is too much for Hatley, and he waves off the fight.

Cody Stamann vs. Aljamain Sterling

Round 1 – They trade high kicks to lead. Sterling follows with right hands and more high kicks. Stamann pushes back with his own offense, but he’s a little short. Sterling shoots for a leg and gets stuffed. Stamann moving forward, and his power punches are still short. Sterling again with front kick. Stamann charging, trying to make something happen. Sterling comes back with front kicks then attacks the leg. Heavy kick attack, and the two try spin attacks. Sterling ends his with a takedown attempt against the fence. Stamann tries to catch him with a knee inside. Sterling gets turned after trying to complete the takedown. Close-in fighting. Stamann has double underhooks, then drops for a single. Sterling wraps the head, but Stamann bucks him off, and they go back to striking. Stamann aggressively presses forward, and a right counter sets up a takedown for Sterling, who misses that but nails a spinning backfist. Stamann stays the course and uses a scramble to put Sterling on the mat. Sterling pulls out a triangle and has the position. Stamann looks like he’s in trouble, but Sterling adjusts and Stamann gets free. Sterling now driving for a takedown against the fence, and he drags Stamann down only to be reversed and tossed to the mat. Stamann gets off a few hammerfists before the frame ends. MMAjunkie scores the first frame 10-9 for Sterling.

Round 2 – Stamann comes out firing, and a high kick glances off Sterling’s head. Sterling comes back and gets back to his kicks, trying to corner Stamann. He changes levels for a takedown and Stamann sees it. But the next try is good, and Stamann is sitting against the cage. Stamann turns, and Sterling has the back. Stamann stands and escapes the bad spot, only to take knees to the thigh and head. Stamann changes direction and charges into his own takedown. Sterling up to his feet with Stamann at his back. Sterling fights hands as Stamann knees the legs. Sterling turns and fires off shots against the cage, trying to get a takedown. Stamann somersaults and still ends up on his back. Sterling advances to mount and fires off some punches. Stamann tries to shrimp away. Sterling has back mount, and he’s firing heavy shots. Stamann tries to get out the back door. Double shoulder lock from Sterling, who’s enjoying his dominant position. He’s pounding Stamann, who again stands. Sterling grabs the leg, and as Stamann hits the mat, he taps out. Stamann apparently is injured.

Frank Camacho vs. Geoff Neal

Round 1 – Camacho immediately starts stalking Neal, who replies with hard straight lefts. Neal fires off a left high kick and clips Camacho, who continues forward as if nothing happened. Camacho’s strategy is to get inside and land big shots. Neal finally starts firing preemptively. That doesn’t stop Camacho, who lands with a combo. Neal gets around his foe and nearly clips him with another head kick. Camacho, with fast hands, fires of a quick combo, and they butt heads. Neal with a left hand off a kick. And another. Neal jabs in. High kick almost good again. Camacho still grinding forward, coming back despite taking straight shots. Camacho’s nose bleeding. Heavy exchange prompts Camacho to tie up and press to the fence. Neal gets him to back off with a combo. Strong speed advantage for Neal, who pops Camacho before he can reply. Left hands are tearing up Camacho, who goes to the body. Neal contemplates his options, and Camacho moves for a takedown. Neal avoids it and drops Camacho with a left hand. Neal flurries away with heavy shots as Camacho tries to crawl to safety. Seconds from a stoppage when the time ends. MMAjunkie scores the frame 10-8 for Neal.

Round 2 – Camacho is busted up. Neal is pacing like he’s waiting for the store to open. Neal paces in and pops a jab, and Camacho grabs a leg for a takedown. He misses and rolls his ankle, and Neal closes and flurries. Camacho winging hooks to protect himself, and Neal backs off. Back in, and Neal goes to town and lands a flying knee. Camacho still standing, so he backs off, and Camacho lets out a howl. Camacho pushes forward and tries to turn the tables, and Neal unleashes that left headkick. There’s no doubt. Camacho’s lights are out. Highlight-reel stoppage for Neal.

Charles Byrd vs. Darren Stewart

Round 1 – Both men test jabs. Byrd ducks a straight right. He presses with an overhand right and clinches up on a reactive takedown attempt off a kick. Stewart turns him against the fence, and he turns back and presses to the cage. They trade knees in pummel position, and they trade position. Stewart with knee to body in clinch. Byrd peels off and whiffs on a right. Stewart good with his own straight shot. They both sit on right hand and miss. Byrd lands a pair of straight rights and pushes to the fence. Byrd jumps into a gullotine attempt off a quick takedown. He doesn’t have it, and the two wrestle again for position against the fence. Byrd with a pair of nice elbows, and he peels off. Again at distance, Byrd landing punches before pressing into the clinch. They pummel for position, and Stewart turns and lands an elbow. Byrd fires off a pair of high kicks that are partially blocked. Back to the clinch. Byrd tries to pick a leg before peeling off. Stewart with his own straight right. He looks a step behind so far. Byrd ducks under into the clinch, and they pummel again. Another heavy elbow from Byrd, who follows with knees. Again with elbows from Byrd. Stewart taking them all. Byrd whiffs on a high kick to end the frame, and he gets the 10-9 score.

Round 2 – Byrd presses in and sticks the leg. Not long before they clinch, and Byrd turns Stewart against the fence. Knees and stomps from Byrd before they disengage. Another host at range from Byrd. A few swings, and they’re back in the clinch. Overhand right off clinch from Byrd. Stewart tries to catch Byrd coming in, but again he’s stung at range before giving up position against the fence. Stewart lands an elbow and wobbles Byrd, and all of a sudden, Byrd is in trouble. Stewart pouring it on against the fence. Byrd turns to avoid the punishment against the cage and takes a shot that puts him on his knees. Montalvo steps in to stop the damage, and Stewart completes his come-from-behind win.

Diego Sanchez vs. Craig White

Round 1 – Sanchez runs across the octagon and immediately starts winging bolos. White wraps the neck with a guillotine, and it looks bad. But Sanchez elevates the “TUF 1” vet and slams him to the mat. White immediately starts looking for a submission. White kicks him off and lands an upkick, and Sanchez goes back to the canvas, working his trademark ground and pound. White, stuffed against the fence, doesn’t have much space to work. He kicks Sanchez off, but Sanchez stacks him and lands a punch before returning to guard. White tries to wrap up his foe and again kicks him off. Sanchez shucks the leg and almost passes guard, but White adjusts. Past the midway point of the round, and it’s classic ground and pound from Sanchez. A nice shot nails White, and he grimaces as Sanchez advances to side control. Arm-triangle setup from Sanchez, who pulls back and nails a nice short shot in side control. Sanchez works to trap an arm and get get the crucifix. Sanchez pounding from top position as White scrambles to his back. Big shots, and White tries to turn for a leg. Sanchez going to town as time runs out, and MMAjunkie scores the frame for him via a 10-8 tally.

Round 2 – Sanchez again in and White sits own on punches and knees, chasing Sanchez across the cage with heavy shots. A big knee cracks Sanchez, but he grabs a leg and gets another takedown, landing close to the cage. Back to where he were in round one. Sanchez back to work, and White lands an upkick. Undeterred, Sanchez settles in, and White tries to scoot away and land an upkick. Sanchez stays tight, and White tries to tie him up. This is Sanchez’s world, though. White wheels around again and lands an upkick. Sanchez fires down more punches. He stands up, and White slaps him with another kick. Back into guard, and then standing up again to wing down another shot. Pass to side control, and White tries to turn out by wall-walking. Instead, they end up in north-south. Sanchez returns to guard and then stands to fire down more shots. Big left hands as Sanchez literally sits on White’s face. Kimura setup for a second, but Sanchez likes side control more. And he likes sitting on White’s face, apparently. White tries to roll for a leg and runs out of time. MMAjunkie scores the round 10-9 for Sanchez, and he’s up 20-17.

Round 3 – White extends a glove and Sanchez won’t take it. White again goes headhunting and cracks Sanchez. But again, Sanchez powers through the damage and bowls White over to the mat. Big elbows from Sanchez. Unless White suddenly finds a scramble that’s eluded him for two rounds, this is Sanchez’s fight to lose. Sanchez wraps the head and then continues the usual playbook of standing overhead and lunging in as White tries to catch him with kicks. Another elbow good. White punches the body, and Sanchez moves him to the cage. Big punches from the top again. Knee from north-south dangerously close to illegal, but Hatley rules it was to the shoulder. Sanchez returns to side control. Audience finally loses its patience with plodding pace. White walk walks, and Sanchez grabs an arm to set up a submission. White hoisting up his legs. No dice. Sanchez makes him eat big elbows. A shoulder strike. Sanchez up again, and White bicyles his legs. Back to guard. One-way traffic. Same sequence with Sanchez standing and firing as White bicyles legs. Sanchez ends the fight with a flurry of punches as White holds guard. MMAjunkie scores the frame 10-8 for Sanchez, who gets the 30-25 score.

Jim Miller vs. Alex White

Round 1 – They trade jabs early, and Miller rips a leg kick. More jabs, and White tries to muscle into range and make something happen. Miller with a nice straight left. Another three-piece punctuated by a big straight left rocks White as he’s moving back, and Miller is all over him against the cage. As White turns his back to try and protect himself, Miller secures a no-hooks rear-naked choke. Hooks follow, and Miller squeezes until White is forced to tap. Great performance from a decorated veteran.

Irene Aldana vs. Lucie Pudilova

Round 1 – Pudilova works a jab as Aldana measures her range. Aldana kicks the legs and draws a fast counter. Multi-punch combo lands from Aldana as Pudilova closes. Pudilova tries to get it back with a charge, but Aldana isn’t there. Pudilova the more aggressive striker, but Aldana’s counters are sharper and more technical. Aldana attacks the calf with kicks. Pudilova is working a persistent jab as the pressures Aldana. But a straight right cracks her as Aldana moves off the center line. Pudilova back to the jab. She chases Aldana after taking a hard leg kick. Superman punch blocked by Aldana. Again, a lot of movement and volume from Pudilova, but a lot of it is ineffective. Aldana pops a jab and then covers up for the counter. Pudilova lands an overhand right and goes to the body with a kick. Pudilova is bullying Aldana around the cage with fast kicks and punches. A front kick cracks Aldana, who lands with a spinning back fist. A firefight late in the round, and while Pudilova’s final push was good, Aldana gets the 10-9 score.

Round 2 – Aldana now the one moving forward, ripping the leg with a kick. Pudilova feints with a kick, and they trade in the center of the cage. Pudilova comes back with a flurry of kicks. Aldana’s reply to the leg comes hard. Pudilova with another charge across the cage. She looks a little more flat-footed this round and Aldana is the aggressor. A counter right from Aldana draws a flurry from Pudilova, who mostly misses. Pudilova walks down her foe and again goes high with kicks. They trade hard rights, and Aldana staggers after landing a right. A circle off emboldens Pudilova to press forward with hard kicks and punches. Aldana with another hard leg kick. Pudilova’s offense is mostly motivated by a push to get Aldana back whenever she gets too much momentum. Pudilova a little slower this round. Aldana presses forward again and starts to attack the legs. Pudilova flails back and sticks a jab. Aldana catches a kick and fires back her own. Aldana good on the inside with straight punches, and Pudilova tries to charge back. Damage shows on her face. She’s trying to corner Aldana and then ducks under for a takedown attempt that’s stuffed. An elbow cracks Aldana as Pudilova wages one last charge to end the frame, which MMAjunkie scores 10-9 for Aldana.

Round 3 – Aldana lands a pair of kicks, and Pudilova chases her back. Nice combo from Pudilova. Aldana presses back and rips the legs, and Pudilova again chases her and lands a right hand. Hard exchanges, and Aldana lands a bruising leg kick that prompts a noticeable effect on Pudilova. Still gas in the tank for Pudilova, who walks to Aldana and lands a right. Aldana cracks her back with a right hand, and her nose is leaking badly. Another low kick prompts Pudilova to charge and fire off big punches. Those low kicks from Aldana have taken a toll, but she’s still going after Aldana. Trading jabs over and over again, and Aldana batters the legs. Aldana’s face now busted up, but she’s still the more accurate fighter. Pudilova has to take two to land a good one. Still, it’s a hell of a scrap as Pudilova chases her opponent across the cage. Pudilova clinches Aldana against the cage and takes a hard knee. Scramble against the fence, and Aldana lands a knee to the head from the plump. Pudilova, undeterred, chases her across the cage and goes for broke. Aldana trying to avoid the worst of it, but jabs are getting through. Finally, Pudilova has to back off, and Aldana goes to work with right hands and uppercut. Pudilova nails Aldana with an elbow, and they battle from the clinch as time runs out. Early “Fight of the Night” contender, but MMAjunkie sees it 10-9 for Aldana, who gets the 30-27 score.

Jarred Brooks vs. Roberto Sanchez

Round 1 – Brooks works to establish jab, moving laterally. They trade and both land on their first meaningful exchange. Sanchez pushes through a kick and works for a takedown against the cage. Brooks sits up against the fence and traps a leg, hoping to take the back in transition. A stall as Brooks hangs on. Gravity helps Sanchez stay in a dominant position, and he works to advance to mount. Sanchez gets a little high on the body, and Brooks rolls for a leg. Brooks going hard for it, and Sanchez rolls and fires down hammerfists. Brooks still cranking, but he’s in a bad spot. Sanchez elbowing the thigh and punching the body. Pitter-patter punch exchanges. Sanchez is on top, and Brooks rolls for the other leg. Brooks scrambles back to his feet, and Sanchez presses him against the cage. Knees from Sanchez and a single-leg setup. Short time. Brooks beats the body and thinks about a choke on the ducked Sanchez. Scramble, and Sanchez manages to keep his man stuffed against the cage until time runs out. Round 2 – Sanchez presses in as Brooks moves laterally. Again, Sanchez charges in, and Brooks parries and counters well. Brooks extends on punches and gives Sanchez the single-leg entry. Back against the fence, Sanchez misses a leg hook and briefly winds up on bottom before scramble puts Brooks at the back as they stand. Brooks now working for a takedown, and Sanchez popping him with short shots. Sanchez tries to get to the back and winds up flopping back to guard. Brooks goes to work with ground and pound as round hits midway point. Brooks wraps the head and pushes Sanchez off the cage. Closed guard, and Brooks trying an elbow or two. Sanchez sits up and briefly wraps the head, but Brooks pushes him back down. Sweep attempt fails from Sanchez. Brooks presses his foe to the cage and pounds away as Sanchez tries to isolate an arm. Round ends, and Brooks gets the 10-9, evening it up at 19-19.

Round 3 – Brooks spins with a backfist and it’s partially good. Sanchez tries the same and turns on the pressure. Brooks ducks under and wraps the clinch, pushing to the cage. Double-leg attempt ensues, and Sanchez widens his legs. Brooks sweeps a leg, and Sanchez sets up an arm triangle. Brooks in side control, and Sanchez walks the cage with his feet. Brooks adjusts and settles into side control. Sanchez traps an arm, and Brooks knees the body. Montalvo thinks about a standup. Sanchez trying to shrimp away and takes a punch. Sanchez rolls to his knees, and Brooks wraps the neck. Sprawl out as Sanchez presses in, and Brooks knees the shoulders and legs. Less than two minutes to go. Sanchez sits back into guard against the cage, triangling the body from the back. Brooks stays heavy and fires down sporadic shots. Sanchez throws his legs up and is forced to give up as Brooks sits up. Brooks turns up ground and pound tempo, and the two flail away as time expires. A big elbow lands for Brooks in the final seconds. MMAjunkie scores the round 10-9 for Brooks, and he gets the 29-28 call.
