UFC 244 play-by-play and live results

NEW YORK – UFC 244 takes place Saturday, and you can join us for live play-by-play and official results beginning at 6:30 p.m. ET (3:30 p.m. PT).

The event takes place at Madison Square Garden in New York, with a main card that streams on pay-per-view following prelims on ESPN2, ESPN+ and UFC Fight Pass.

In the main event, the promotion’s first “BMF” title belt is on the line as Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz meet in a welterweight bout.

Follow along with our round-by-round updates and official results beginning at approximately 6:30 p.m. ET for the ESPN+ prelims, 8 p.m for the ESPN2 prelims, and 10 p.m. for the main card on ESPN+ pay-per-view.

Current fight

Blagoy Ivanov vs. Derrick Lewis

Round 1 – Lewis sets up in front of his opponent. He’s controlling the center and looking to attack. He kicks the body, but Ivanov grabs it and trips him to the floor. Lewis grabs the cage, trying to stay upright, but he’s warned about it and hits the floor. Ivanov tries to attack the arm, but Lewis spins and rolls to climb back to his feet. Big punches on the feet and another kick, perhaps ill-advised. Ivanov able to avoid the biggest blows, and he tries to clinch. Lewis pushes him to the floor and sets up on top, but he can’t do much before Ivanov gets back to the feet. They work in close quarters. Short elbow inside for Lewis. Ivanov holding a bodylock. He just misses on a nice throw attempt, but Lewis stays upright. Knees traded. Lewis finally breaks away and fires a big shot but misses. They end on the feet. MMA Junkie gives the first to Lewis, 10-9.

Round 2 – Crowd chanting Lewis’ name, but it’s Ivanov who lands a left hand. He pushes forward and into a a clinch. Dueling bodylocks. Lewis presses the action to the cage but is able to pop loose back away to the center. Lewis kicks the leg. He lands a right and a left. Ivanov stunned, but he fires back. Lewis clipped slightly, but he’s teeing off. A few shots do land clean, but Ivanov somehow survives them. IvanovX clinches and gets the fight to the floor. He’s inside control and gets the keylock on the right arm, but Lewis somehow is able to muscle his way out of it and crawl back to his feet. Big punches thrown. Crowd on their feet. Ivanov as tough as they come, but his eyes are both showing damage. Ivanov walks forward and gets the clinch again, pushing to the fence. Lewis creates enough room to land a big right inside. He moves to the middle. Right hand lands for Lewis, but Ivanov again able to withstand it and move away. Ivanov walks forward with punches, and Lewis happy to take a breather against the cage.Gorgeous throe from Ivanov sends Lewis to the floor. Lewis scrambles, and Ivanov locks on to a guillotine, but the bell sounds before he can get the tap. Drama. MMA Junkie gives it again to Lewis, 10-9.

Round 3 – Lewis misses a big right to start and is caught with a counter. Ivanov misses on a massive right hand. Lewis happy to work on the outside and wait for his moment. He misses a big right hand. Ivanov working from the center and ducks under a big punch. He flurries his way into a clinch. Ivanov pressing the action to the cage. Lewis digging underhooks and trying to get free. He slips away after a missed throw, and they are in the center. Lewis retreats to the cage and is caught by a left. He seems to fake being stunned to fire a huge uppercut that misses. Ivanov with another left that lands. In the clinch, and Lewis misses on a trip. Big mistake there, and Ivanov controls from a front headlock. He can’t pressure the neck though, and Lewis gets to his feet. Lewis looking for the one big shot. He drives a few uppercuts inside and a few knees. Ivanov happy to work in tight and try to tie up the arms. Lewis gets to the center in the final seconds, and they throw bombs. Lewis can’e get the shot he wants, but he should have done enough for the win. MMA Junkie gives the final round to Ivanov, 10-9, but awards Lewis the fight, 29-28.

Julio Arce vs. Hakeem Dawodu

Round 1 – Dawodu misses an early low kick but scores with a second. He’s controlling the center early. Arce moving side to side on the outside. Dawodu with a leaping front kick to the body. He kicks the leg again. Dawodu controlling the center and moves forward with a knee into the clinch. Arce digging for underhooks against the fence. He spins off the cage, but Dawodu pulls away and resets in the center. Halfway through the first. Arce a little busier out in the center. He misses a leaping knee but scores shortly after with a big left hand. Dawodu answers with a two-punch combination. He kicks to the body again. Arce moving well, but Dawodu is calmly walking him down. Big left lands down the middle for Arce. Dawodu shakes it off and chops again at the legs. Less than a minute. Arce ducks briefly for a leg and nearly pays dearly for it. Thai clinch from Dawodu, and he lands a few knees inside before the bell. MMA Junkie gives the first to Dawodu, 10-9.

Round 2 – Referee Todd Anderson wipes off some excess moisture on Dawodu’s chest, and we start again. Arce busier to start. He comes out swinging, and Dawodu ready to answer. After a few exchanges, Dawodu moves into the clinch. Arce battles his way off the fence, but Dawodu turns it again. Arce won’t stay there, and we break back to the center. Dawodu again with the stepping front kick. His jab works, and a straight right scores, as well. Dawodu kicks to the body. Arce is having some success, but Dawodu always seems ready to answer it. Two minutes left. Arce looking for a change and steps in with a takedown. It works, and Dawodu pulls half-guard as he hits the deck. Dawodu turns to his knees to rise, but Arce switches quickly to his back. Tense moments, but Dawodu defends well and is able to spin inside, taking top position. Big turn of events there. Dawodu stands and kicks the legs a bit. Arce tries to threaten with upkicks in the final minute. He fires one capoeira-style kick and gets back to his feet. Quick exchanges until the bell. MMA Junkie gives the round to Dawodu, 10-9.

Round 3 – Dawodu out quickly and looking to control in the clinch. Arce battles well there, so Dawodu pulls away. Arce firing off combinations, but he’s struggling to land clean. He just misses a big flying knee. Kicks traded, and Dawodu lands a right hand. He again grabs a Thai plum and pushes the action to the fence. Knees exchanged inside. Arce switches off the fence, but Dawodu turns it quickly, as well, and they split. Big punches being traded, but they’re just glancing blows. They clinch again, and Dawodu is the one controlling it. Short elbows inside. Left hands score for Dawodu when they break. He’s flowing right now. Arce’s face busted up a bit. He thinks takedown, but Dawodu counters as they fall and is able to stay off the floor. Crowd cheering in the final 30 seconds. They stand toe-to-toe and trade. Arce clinches late, but nothing there. Fun fight. MMA Junkie gives the round to Dawodu, 10-9, awarding him the fight 30-27. Closer fight than that might suggest.

Lyman Good vs. Chance Rencountre

Round 1 – Good with a quick counter right over an immediate Rencountre low kick. Rencountre working on the outside. Good with a low kick, then lands another right hand over his opponent’s strike. Good is confident early and throwing hard. Still, a scrappy Rencountre is looking to trade. Rencountre pushes into a clinch, but Good able to land a knee inside and push him away. Good landing a few loud, slapping g low kicks. Rencountre changes levels for a takedown, but Good able to defend and stay upright. Rencountre pushes him to the cage, but nothing there. They move back to the middle. Ninety seconds left. Good with a high kick and a few big right hands. Rencountre clinches, but Good scores with uppercuts up the middle. Rencountre pulls away, but Good tags him with right hands. Less than a minute. Good is swarming. Rencountre grabs hold to slow things down. He gathers his wits and lands a knee and backs away. Late high kick from Good, and Rencountre is cut near his left eye. Round ends, and MMA Junkie gives it to Good, 10-9.

Round 2 – Rencountre comes out looking to throw hands early. He’s a little more aggressive, but not using the low kicks that were being countered so well in the first. Good showing little respect with his advances, loading up on big punches and not seeming to fear the returns much. Rencountre remains scrappy and looks to engage, but Good getting the best of the exchanges. Good misses on a huge right hand. Rencountre has a little blood trickling down from the left eye. Good loading up on every shot right now. Rencountre being cautious but trying to engage. The counters make it tough, though. Still, Rencountre isn’t backing down. Left hands traded. Rencountre lands an uppercut. A second one scores. Good bleeding from the right ear. He lands a crisp jab, though. Good maybe waiting a little too much for the big shot right now rather than staying busy. Rencountre with a left hand that gets through. Good with a big right then just slips a knee. Good scrap. MMA Junkie leans again toward Good, 10-9, but nice late work from Rencountre.

Round 3 – Rencountre again engages and is looking to box. The left hand lands to the body. Good controlling the center and stalking. Good landing the bigger blows, but Rencountre proving difficult to put away. Rencountre’s face is busted up now. Bleeding from the right eye. Left eye is an absolute mess. Good stalking with his hands down. Right hands score, and Rencountre finally falls. More punches from Good, and this is over. Solid work.

Katlyn Chookagian vs. Jennifer Maia

Round 1 – Chookagian works to the center, and they trade jabs as each keeps their hands high and bounced at the ready. Maia staying very busy early, but Chookagian moving well and looking to counter. Left hands traded. Chookagian trying to use her range, but Maia sitting down on her shots when she moves forward and seems to have the power edge for now. Maia holding the center and firing off right hands. Chookagian with a sneaky high kick, but Maia catches it and drives the action to the fence. Can’t keep it there, and they move back to the center. Maia the busier fighter, and she seems more powerful as well. Another sneaky high kick from Chookagian. She scores with a big right at the end, as well. Strong finish from Chookagian, but MMA Junkie leans toward Maia, 10-9.

Round 2 – Nice right hand from Chookagian to start. Maia chops at the leg. Chookagian stepping up the volume. Maia answering well for now. Chookagian finding her rhythm, though. Left hand scores. High kick just misses. Maia kicks to the legs and then the body. Chookagian with a superman over the top. Chookagian digs to the leg and then lands a nice left hand. Maia staying busy and moving well, but it seems Chookagian is now getting the better of the exchanges. Still, Maia isn’t afraid to stay strong in the pocket. Chookagian’s punches coming in combinations. The high kick misses again, but she’s throwing it. Maia seemed to want the takedown, but Chookagian slips away rather easily. Two crisp punches for Chookagian. Round ends on the feet, and MMA Junkie leans toward Chookagian, 10-9.

Round 3 – Both women seem energized enough to start the third. Maia starting to press a little more. She rushes into the clinch. Chookagian defends well against the fence and is trying to create separation. Maia keeping the pressure high in the clinch, but Chookagian gets her hands inside and pushes away. Back to the center. Maia with the low kick, and Chookagian swings back with punches. Maia is the aggressor right now. Chookagian busy, but she’s not firs to the punch right now. Maia looks a little tired, but she’s grinding. Chookagian kicks to the legs and lands a nice right. Still, Maia is banging away. She drives forward and changes levels, getting deep on the double. She lifts Chookagian and brings her to the floor, setting up in her opponent’s half-guard. Maia keeping the pressure high. Chookagian turns for the leg just at the bell and gets the sweep, but she’s out of time. She punches right and the bell and apologizes. MMA Junkie gives the final round to Maia, 10-9, awarding her the fight 29-28.

Arlovski tries to push forward, but he eats a short left that sends him face-first into the canvas. This is over. Vicious.

Round 1 – Shahbazyan takes the center and studies as Tavares paws out a few jabs. Both men with their hands high. Tavares kicks to the leg. Shahbazyan with a right to the body. Shahbazyan walks forward with a crisp combination, but Tavares catches his attention with a stern counter. Big punches being traded but just missing the mark. Tavares again to the lead leg. Right hand drops Tavares. He somehow scrambles back up amid a flurry of punches. High kick from Shahbazyan blocked. He’s still swarming. Knee up the middle for Shahbazyan. Tavares trying to recover, but he’s in trouble. Shahbazyan left high kick lands clean. This is over. Brutal work from the youngster.

Makwan Amirkhani vs. Shane Burgos

Round 1 – Burgos out quick, and Amirkhani makes it clear he wants the takedown, changing levels and pushing forward. Burgos does his best to defend against the cage, but Amirkhani relentless with the effort and gets the action to the floor. Heavy top pressure for Amirkhani. Burgos in full guard, looking for heel kicks, trying to move. He does turn and stand, but Amirkhani is on his back and keeps the body wrapped. Burgos with a sneaky little back elbow, but Amirkhani tucks his head and throws his opponent to the floor. Burgos pops right back up, but Amirkhani keeping the bodylock from the rear position. He continues to throw Burgos around, who is scrambling well but stick on defense. They work fro position, but Amirkhani grabs the guillotine and falls back. Burgos has the guard cleared, making pressure tough. Amirkhani tries to roll him over, but Burgos again scramble sot safety and is able to pop his head out and return to the feet. Amirkhani with a right hand and a level change, but Burgos stuffs it. Amirkhani sits back, but Burgos doesn’t want to follow. Amirkhani’s boxing looks good, and Burgos’s left eye is busted up. He’s hunting the takedown, but Burgos defending well. Amirkhani misses a leaping knee and eats a counter right. Round ends, and MMA Junkie gives it to Amirkhani, 10-9.

Round 2 – Amirkhani not afraid to dive for the legs from range, but Burgos is there to defend. Burgos loose on the feet as he attacks from the center. Burgos kicks the legs a bit and looks for openings for punches. Burgos getting the best of the striking. Burgos is able to slip under the hands and wrap the body, and he drags the action to the canvas. Burgos works quickly back to his feet, but Amirkhani will not let go of the body. He tries to drag the action back to the floor but has to switch when Burgos winds up on top. Finally they break and reset on the feet. Amirkhani very relaxed and loose on the outside, but Burgos is gaining some steam and lands a combination to the body. Amirkhani shoots from range, but Burgos sprawls well and pushes the head down, punching to the body as he keeps his weight on top. Amirkhani lets go and drops to guard. Burgos with a big hammerfist as he settles on top. Punches from the dominant spot until the bell, and MMA Junkie gives it to Burgos, 10-9.

Round 3 – Amirkhani starting to tire. Burgos pushing forward and land a big left hand. Amirkhani is stunned. More punches from Burgos as he stuffs a desperate shot. Amirkhani falls to the floor, and Burgos pounces, looking to finish. Amirkhani desperately ties things up underneath, and Burgos backs away. Amirkhani struggles to get back to his feet, and the crowd boos the delay. Burgos with a high kick that lands partially. Punches score. Amirkhani staggers. He shoots from distance. Burgos sprawls with ease and pounds the head before backing away. Amirkhani again slow to rise. Burgos trying to find the finishing blow. Amirkhani desperate for the takedown. He moves inside and holds the leg. Burgos with punches and elbows, and he pushes Amirkhani to his back and takes side control. Burgos punishing the body and then stands and backs away. Amirkhani very slow to get up. He’s surviving on heart. Burgos stalking and punches. Amirkhani exhausted but doing his best to get something going. He’s covering up. and surviving, but Burgos attacks the body. Amirkhani falls back, and Burgos nearly catches him with a kick on the way down. That’s enough, and Keith Peterson calls it off.

Corey Anderson vs. Johnny Walker

Round 1 – Walker rushes forward and fakes a few overhand rights. He’s bobbing and weaving and switching stances and kicks the leg. Anderson patient on the outside before driving forward on a single leg. He pushes the action to the cage. Walker able to spin off and eventually pull away. Anderson land a big right hand. Walker is hurt. Anderson flurries with punches. Walker scrambling to get back to his feet and recover. He’s taking damage, but he’s surviving. Walker pushes in on a takedown. Anderson stands and cracks him uppercuts. Anderson absolutely relentless. Vicious. Punches are non-stop. Walker staggers, and this fight is over. Anderson backs away but keeps yelling at him. Officials have to pull Anderson away. He is fired up. What a performance.

Round 1 – Low stance from Lee as he moves out to the center. Both men paw jabs. Hard rights follow. Both men firing big punches early. Gillespie dives for a leg but misses. Lee working his jab often. Gillespie scores one of his own. Lee answers with a nice right hand. Crisp punches landing for both men. Nice left hook for Gillespie. Lee with a stiff left. Tight work in close. Lee misses on a high kick. Lee’s left eye already busted up, two minutes into the fight. Still, he’s staying in the pocket and trading. It pays off. Lee uncorks a right hand to the temple and then a left high kick. Gillespie is out before he hits the floor. Brutal.
