UFC on ESPN+ 14 play-by-play and live results

UFC on ESPN+ 14 takes place Saturday, and you can join us for live play-by-play and official results beginning at 5 p.m. ET (2 p.m. PT).

The event takes place at Antel Arena in Montevideo, the capital city of Uruguay. The card streams on ESPN+.

In the main event, women’s flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko (17-3 MMA, 6-2 UFC) puts her title on the line against challenger Liz Carmouche (13-6 MMA, 5-4 UFC). In the co-feature, Vicente Luque (16-6-1 MMA, 9-2 UFC) takes on Mike Perry (13-4 MMA, 7-4 UFC) at welterweight.

Vicente Luque vs. Mike Perry

Round 1 – Perry circles and gets tagged straight off with a right hand. He leaps with a kick and sticks a straight right, but Luque is still there. Perry goes inside with a leg kick and sits down on a right. Now, a left hook for Perry, and Luque closes in. To the body for Perry, and Luque advances and lets his foe walk into a right. Low kick sets up the jab, and Luque is beginning to find his way inside. Nice body kick from Perry, then a low kick. Luque pushes with a jab and then goes low with a kick. Perry winds up again, and nothing he’s thrown has really gotten Luque’s attention. Perry is catching him with heavy shots, and they’re making their mark. But Luque continues to press and pop his jab before setting uphis right. He leaps with a knee and tags Perry, who backpedals. Now, down to the legs for Luque, and a jab stings Perry. Perry is loading up big time on a lot of his shots. Luque nearly takes his head off with a knee as he ducks. Perry’s left brow is cut. Heavy leg kick from Luque, and Perry comes back swinging with heavy hooks that are absorbed. Luque goes to the calf and pops a jab to defuse a heavy right hand. MMA Junkie scores the frame 10-9 for Perry.

Round 2 – Luque attacks the legs early and lunges with a knee. A head kick is absorbed by Perry, who charges into the clinch against the fence. He works knees in close as Luque tries to escape. Elbows cover his escape, and Luque moves forward. Head kick almost good for the Brazilian, who lands a nice straight right in counter. He’s got Perry backed up, and Perry lands a nice left hook. Perry being smart not to stand in front of Luque for too long. They trade hard jabs, and Luque goes low with a kick. Nice body shot from Perry, who’s finding the right spots to attack Luque as he approaches. Nice shots in close as Perry goes on the offensive. Luque is taking the shots and still seems to be in the game; a pair of right hands find their target. But Perry comes right back. He attacks the body and legs to stop Luque’s advances. Both fighters are getting cracked. Perry is ahead, but it’s a war of attrition. They exchange jabs and straight rights, and Perry wings heavy shots. Time runs out, and Perry’s face is a bloody mess. MMA Junkie still gives him the round, 10-9, for the 20-18 lead.

Round 3 – Luque closes and attacks the legs early. Perry potshots and stays mobile, covering his movement with jabs. Head kicks are met with a lunging knee from Perry. More leg kicks from Luque, who needs something big to change the course of this fight. Leg kicks are landing, but it’s going to take more than that. Perry against the fence lands a left straight and transitions to a single leg attempt. He misses the sweep and tries the takedown against the fence. He takes the body lock instead and knees the legs. Perry finds time to give the middle finger to the crowd for whistling at him, and Herdy separates them. Luque presses forward, quickly running out of time. Flying knee catches Perry, who gets caught in a guillotine that Luque jumps into. Blood streams onto Luque’s flank, but Perry gives the thumbs up and pounds the body. This is it for Luque, who’s arms are flagging. And finally, Perry’s head pops out, no doubt aided by the river of blood. Perry pops up and pounds away before standing up in victory. He’s a bloody mess, and his nose is WRECKED. But he’s still got the third round, 10-9, for the 30-27 win.

Eduardo Garagorri vs. Humberto Bandenay

Round 1 – Garagorri’s leadoff leg kick way short, and his high kick is blocked. Bandenay not impressed. Bandenay ducks under a punch and gets a takedown. Garagorri instantly scoots to the fence and pushes the head to stand. He fires lateral elbows, but Bandenay steps into mount. Garagorri powers to his feet and resists a subsequent takedown. Instead, he transitions from the clinch to a trip takedown. He’s on top landing shots, then quickly gets up and bides his time. He offers a hand to help up Bandenay and then whacks the leg. Big combo from Garagorri, and Bandenay instantly shoots. Again, Garagorri is against the fence, and Bandenay steps into the mount. Once again, he can’t hold it and jumps guard briefly. Garagorri wants space to strike, but Bandenay holds on. Garagorri breaks off and drives in to the clinch against the fence. They jockey for position, and Garagorri peels off with a heavy combo. He potshots Bandenay, who comes back swinging and ties up at the fence. Bandenay briefly drags Garagorri down, and time runs out in the clinch. MMA Junkie scores the frame 10-9 for Garagorri.

Round 2 – Heavy leg kick opens up Garagorri’s initial attack. Bandenay’s counter is short, and he gets pushed back. Nice leg kicks from Garagorri, who’s clearly in control of this fight so far. Bandenay cracks him with a flurry, and he fires back and smiles. They trade leg kicks, and Garagorri ducks as Bandenay again charges. Garagorri back with a flurry, and he gets clipped with a left hook. He’s bleeding from his left eye and pushes into the clinch. Bandenay smothered against the fence, and Maia isn’t having it and separates them. More big hooks from Bandenay, and Garagorri leaps in with a knee. Body kick follows, and Garagorri’s spin misses. Garagorri walks down his foe and lands a nice punch before resetting. Bandenay looks like he’s running a little low on energy and clinches up to slow things down. Garagorri peels off with an elbow and charges in to double up. Bandenay cracks him in counter, prompting him to spin again wtih a kick. Back in, Bandenay ducks under and gets a takedown at the bell. MMA Junkie scores the frame 10-9 for Garagorri, who’s up 20-18.

Round 3 – Big left hand from Garagorri opens up the final frame. Bandenay scoots away from a leg kick and tries to reply, only to be met with a couple of hard shots. Garagorri presses for the clinch and gets turned. Bandenay gets the takedown and winces as Garagorri throws an elbow. A back mount attempt is again not enough to keep Garagorri down, but Bandenay suceeds in keeping dominant position against the fence. Maia separates them quickly. Bandenay ducks a big shot and comes back with a few wide hooks. Garagorri on the offense and draws another takedown attempt. Bandenay locks up the clinch and fires knees. Garagorri turns him and takes a knee. He keeps driving with less than two minutes, and suddenly, he breaks off. Bandenay still swinging for the fences, and Garagorri obliges with his own shots. Garagorri’s spin kick whiffs. Bandenay showboats, and Garagorri smiles. They go toe to toe and swing, but nobody lands. Garagorri a little better in the pocket, and he shrugs off a takedown. Bandenay looks to be running on fumes. Garagorri sticks a jab as his opponent wings bolos. Bandenay tries one last takedown, and they slug it out for the last few seconds with neither really landing big. MMA Junkie scores the frame 10-9 for Garagorri, who gets the 30-27 shutout.

Volkan Oezdemir vs. Ilir Latifi

Round 1 – Latifi grabs a leg after Oezdemir pumps a jab and misses. He ducks again and wings a punch, and then closes after getting slapped with a leg kick. Oezdemir calmly advances and sticks a right before aproaching again. He sneaks in a left and a knee before a low kick ensnares his leg. Latifi elevates and slams him to the mat, but he’s right back up to his feet. Latiti keeps the pressure on, but Oezdemir pursues immediately. Latifi lands a right hand and eats a flying knee attempt to shove Oezdemir to the mat. Short elbows from Oezdemir, and Latifi punches free. Big welt under Latifi’s right eye. Both men pause, and Oezdemir greets Latifi with another huge knee to the head. Latifi smothers him against the fence. Shoulder strikes set up Oezdemir’s exit, and he resets. Big low kick for Oezdemir, and another one. Latifi stumbles and nearly takes another flying knee. Oezdemir continues to pressure his opponent and takes a few short shots before fighting off a takedown. Latifi again gets backed up, and a low kick sets up a flurry of punches from Oezdemir, who strikes in the clinch before backing off. Time runs out, and MMA Junkie scores it 10-9 for Oezdemir.

Round 2 – Latifi jabs in, and Oezdemir sits down on a right. Oezdemir continuing to bully Latifi around the cage, being first to strike. Latifi trying to keep Oezdemir with short flurries of punches and not having much luck. Shot selection for Oezdemir is much more diverse. But Latifi sneaks in a nice right hand. Nice few shots from Oezdemir, and Latifi gets one back. Big lunging knee drops Latifi, who gets up as Oezdemir flurries away. Oezdemir back in the clinch, firing knees and an elbow. Latifi backs off and takes another couple of shots. He looks at the clock as Oezdemir flurries his elbows. Big left hook for Oezdemir, who’s dominating on the feet. Latifi doubles over after a shot. He’s spent, and Oezdemir is just biding his time. He digs the body and lunges with a knee. Latifi right hits, and he doesn’t even flinch. Leg kick hobbles Latifi, who reaches for the legs and misses. Oezdemir moves in and lands a left hook that puts Latifi down. Another shot, and Latifi faceplants to the canvas. Fight over.

Rodolfo Vieira vs. Oskar Piechota

Round 1 – Piechota already on his back foot as Vieira presses forward and lands a nice jab. Piechota plants and fires a right hand, and it’s way short. He feints to keep Vieira at distance and takes another jab. That prompts him to move forward and fire back a shot. His first kick is intercepted, but Vieiera can’t convert it to a takedown. They both sit down on punches and connect. Nice rip to the body from Piechota. Another combo pushes back Vieira, who shoots with Piechota at the fence and gets it. In butterfly guard, Vieira punches and looks to pass. Not much room to work, and Piechota kicks him off. Vieira scoops the legs and retains control. Armbar to triangle from Piechota, who takes a few punches in transition. Vieira now turning up the ground and pound. Piechota sits up after kicking off Vieira, but it’s a brief respite. Vieira pounding with his right hand as he stands overhead. Kicks allow Piechota to get up, and lateral elbows stop Vieira in his tracks as the round comes to an end. MMA Junkie scores the frame 10-9 for Vieira.

Round 2 – Piechota works his lead hand as Vieira closes. Nice combo in close, and Vieira shoots for the takedown. Piechota stuffs it and whiffs on a high kick. Vieira closing in, only to get pushed back. Piechota sprawls on a takedown and can’t stop the momentum. Now in half-guard, Vieira works to free his leg. Piechota bucks him off in transition and pops up. Another shot in the open from Vieira, and the cage stops him. Vieira grabs a leg and spins Piechota to the canvas. Piechota is seated against the fence as Vieira works short shots. More ground and pound as Vieira adjusts position. Vieira traps an arm and punches with his left. Piechota gets to his hands and knees briefly before rolling to his back. Vieira steps into mount and pounds away, and he hops over to cinch an arm-triangle. It’s in deep, and Piechota has no choice other than to tap.

Enrique Barzola vs. Bobby Moffett

Round 1 – Both men a little tenative to start, but a body kick from Barzola gets Moffett moving forward. He’s putting on the pressure early, going high with kicks. Barzola comes back with a superman punch and takes the center of the cage. He answers Moffett’s kicks with stiff jabs and shovelcuts. Moffett pushes back and lands a nice right hand. Barzola a little short in his combos, and Moffett goes low with a nice kick. Moffett ducks out of a corner and pops a high kick before retreating. He’s mixing his strikes and kicks in a way that Barzola is having a tough time reading. Barzola’s jab is on point as he pursues the counter. But the volume is taking him out of his rhythm. He continues to press forward with lead hand attacks as Moffett potshots and resets. Punches set up body kicks and a right hand leans clean for Moffett. An aggressive Barzola shoots in and gets a last second takedown. Moffett pops up and slugs it out as time expires. MMA Junkie scores the frame 10-9 for Moffett.

Round 2 – Barzola more aggressive off the bat, punching his way inside before a takedown attempt. He takes the body lock as Moffett turns and briefly drags his foe down. Moffett gets up and goes back to work mixing up his shots. Barzola tries the single leg again and misses. Moffett ducks in off his own punch and drives to the fence. Barzola wraps the head and gets free. He has Moffett against the fence and fires a long combo, but Moffett manages to get free and pushes him back with his own shots. Slugfest breaking out as Barzola comes back and goes toe to toe. Moffett’s right cheekbone is beginning to swell. Barzola with lunging hooks, Moffett drags him down briefly than a body lock. Barzola pops up and gets right in Moffett’s face. Nice calf kick from Moffett, but a low kick goes south. They pause, and Barzola lunges with a big left hook. Moffett moves forward and slings heavy leather before backing off. That calf kick is back for Moffett, and Barzola pushes forward for another left. Moffett slpaps his face and presses forward to land his best punches of the round. Firefight as they trade attack for attack, and Barzola nabs the last second takedown. Moffett pops up, and time runs out. MMA Junkie scores the round 10-9 for Barzola, and it’s 19-19.

Round 3 – Moffett walks down Barzola, who feints and sends him back. Circle and jab from Barzola, and Moffett sticks with his low kicks, mixing in punches low and high. Another charge from Barzola, who pushes Moffett against the fence with punches and tries the single leg. He misses, and Moffett turns him to fire short punches against the cage. Moffett puts a nice jab on target and waits out the combo to return fire. Spinning elbow just off for Barzola, who takes another calf kick. Barzola pressing forward as Moffett tries to interrupt his advance with sneaky hooks. Nice uppercut from Barzola, and Moffett counters with a pair of right hands that briefly stop him. Swing and a big miss from Barzola, and Moffett now has him cornered. Short shots from Moffett, and Barzola fires a powerful flurry. Moffett sticking a jab as he moves off. Barzola continues to play the bull to his foe’s matador. Nice right from Barzola, who ducks under for the last-second takedown. Again, he puts down Moffett, who pops up and can’t reply before the end of the round. MMA Junkie scores the round 10-9 for Moffett, who gets the close 29-28 decision.

Gilbert Burns vs. Aleksei Kunchenko

Round 1 – The two trade low kick, and Kunchenko drops from a follow up. Burns barely misses in the ensuing follow-up, and Kunchenko pops up to fight off another approach. Burns goes back to the legs, and Kunchenko spins with a kick for a whiff. Kunchenko kicks the calf repeatedly, and Burns backs off briefly. Burns repays him with a few similar shots of his own and drives in for the single leg. Off the fence, he puts Kunchenko down and works inside butterfly guard. He scoops Kunchenko against a quick standup and works to trap the legs. Kunchenko using the fence to sit up, and Burns tags him with an elbow. Burns passes the legs and then moves back to butterfly with nowhere to work. Kunchenko trying to sit up, and Burns flattens him momentarily. Cat and mouse game against the fence with time running out. Burns can’t do much on the position. He grabs the neck momentarily and then pounds with punches. A mount attempt prompts Kunchenko to buck him and stand up. Time runs out, and MMA Junkie scores it 10-9 for Burns.

Round 2 – Burns low kick draws punch counters from Kunchenko. Nice lunging knee from Burns, and Kunchenko presses in to get back. Kunchenko’s guard deflects heavy shots from Burns, who ducks under only to get foot swept to the mat. Kunchenko presses in and beats the body. He’s putting together combinations and pressing the action, while Burns appears a little less fresh this round. They trade low kicks, and Burns’ punches are blocked. His lunging knee is met with sharp counters from Kunchenko, who’s getting the better of him this round. A tight guard is keeping Burns from scoring with fists. Kunchenko times a nice body kick and follows with a right. Burns comes back with a low kick that backs off Kunchenko, and he ducks under for an easy takedown. Two minutes left, and Kunchenko rabbit punches the head. Burns plants his feet and passes to half-guard. Sweep attempt fails, and Burns punches before seizing the neck. Kunchenko sits up and fights the hands. Burns gives it up and returns to guard. Elbows from Burns, and he nearly seizes the neck as Kunchenko pops up. Now it’s Kunchenko standing overhead and kicking the legs as the round ends. MMA Junkie scores the frame 10-9 for Kunchenko, and it’s 19 all.

Round 3 – Burns eager with kicks to start, and Kunchenko presses him back. Nice check left hook from Burns. They trade low kicks, and Kunchenko keeps the pressure on as Burns backpedals. Takedown is stuffed, and Burns redoubles efforts against cage. Kunchenko blocks it and knees the body before the break. Back on the offense, Kunchenko wearing down Burns with volume. Nice jabs. Burns seems to be hanging on. A low kick sweeps Burns, and Kunchenko is standing overhead kicking the legs. Peterson steps in and separates, and Burns has to stand. Kunchenko inches in and nearly gets a head kick before Burns moves for the takedown and foists his opponent to his knees. He quickly moves to the back as Kunchenko kneels against the fence. Two minutes to go, and Burns misses a back take. With the body lock, Burns takes a few short shots as he tries to get the fight down. Kunchenko continues to elbow, and Burns is forced to adjust. More lateral elbows, and Peterson steps in to separate. Another low kick from Kunchenko, who’s on the hunt with seconds left. He runs after Burns, looking for the last shot and puts a nice low kick on. MMA Junkie scores the round 10-9 for Kunchenko and gives him the fight with a 29-28 score. But a 29-28 the other way wouldn’t come as a shock.

Ciryl Gane vs. Raphael Pessoa

Round 1 – Passoa comes out swinging with his right hand and a follow-up kick. He spins and nearly gets clipped with a counter punch. Gane backing up his guy and catches a leg to put him down. He punches down as Pessoa gets up and clinches before backing off. Another big spin from Passoa. Gane and Passoa loading up on big combos. Passoa content to fight off the fence on the counter. Gane feinting and staying patient with his foe backed up. Nice jab, and Pessoa fires back. A more technical approach from Gane, who picks his shots, while Pessoa swings and brawls more haphazardly. Gane barely off on an overhand right, then goes back to his jab. Pessoa smiles and fakes in. They trade jab and both sit down on right hands. Neither land, but Gane ducks under to tie up against the fence. Pessoa with a trip, and Gane rides the momentum to reverse. Now on top, Gane quickly seizes and arm triangle. Pessoa is trapped, and a squeeze brings the tapout.

Tecia Torres vs. Marina Rodriguez

Round 1 – Feints from Rodriguez and Torres early. Kicks from the long and lanky Rodriguez follow. Torres has yet to get inside and goes to her kicks. Short striking explosions from Rodriguez, who ends them with leg kicks. Not much has landed for either fighter, but Rodriguez’s pace is doing the job. Torres gets caught in the clinch and punches her way out. Rodriguez gets a little more aggressive with her combinations, pushing Torres back. Torres fakes into a takedown and can’t complete it. Rodriguez targets the knee, and she complains of an eyepoke. Torres stings the leg and resets on the counter. Big right from Rodriguez as Torres ducks in. Torres absorbs a body kick and pushes her foe to the fence. Knees from Rodriguez, who escapes and nails Torres in close before pushing her to the fence. Big knees in clinch and an elbow from Rodriguez to end the frame. MMA Junkie scores it 10-9 for Rodriguez.

Round 2 – Rodriguez and Torres trade kicks, and Rodriguez fires back on a low attack. Torres goes high, drawing a flurry from Rodriguez. Torres fights off another charge with a side kick, and Rodriguez lands a body kick as she presses forward. Right hand opens clinch for Rodriguez against the fence. Rodriguez smothers Torres and misses on a trip. Torres kicks on the retreat, and Rodriguez is still in her face. Nice counter right from Torres to buy her time, and they reset. Torres shoots and takes a few elbows, and they throw hands with neither landing clean. Rodriguez charges in to the clinch and tries to clinch. She lands a few glancing knees as Torres punches her. Back in, she gets turned against the fence, and Torres changes levels. Rodriguez chambers a knee, and Torres blocks it. Punch for Rodriguez in transition, and Torres takes a front kick. She’s trying to keep Rodriguez at bay with low kicks and movement, but she’s also getting caught by her opponent’s long legs. Torres times a single leg and drives to the fence. She gets turned and takes a knee off the plumb before turning again at the bell. MMA Junkie scores it 10-9 for Rodriguez, who’s up 20-18.

Round 3 – Spin back kick from Rodriguez, and Torres tries her own replies. So far, a kick heavy round, but Rodriguez breaks the action with a series of right hands that crack Torres and set up the clinch. Again, Torres fighting to reverse position in close, and Rodriguez lining up that plumb. Torres turns and changes levels to no avail. Rodriguez turns her and fires off a few shots at distance before Torres can escape. Rodriguez in pursuit and eats a body kick to dump Torres. They shoot it out as Torres pops up. Rodriguez kicks after her, and Torres ducks for the takedown. Rodriguez wraps up an arm triangle and puts Torres on the mat with a squeeze. She can’t keep Torres down and they swing it out before Torres escapes. Rodriguez swings in and looks to be setting up for a standing arm triangle, then transitioning to elbows and knees. Torres struggles to escape and finally gets free. Rodriguez back in and works in close with knees, tripping Torres to the mat. Another spin for Rodriguez who nails Torres with a flurry of elbows in close as the fight expires. MMA Junkie scores the frame 10-9 for Rodriguez, who gets the 30-27 call.

Rogerio Bontorin vs. Raulian Paiva

Round 1 – Paiva first to put his hands on his opponent. Bontorin pops the legs and dodges an overhand right. Bontorin charges in and trades hands – he gets the worst of a counter and immediately shoots in for the takedown. He needs two tries elevating Paiva before completing the attempt. Blood is flowing from somewhere on Bontorin’s face, and referee Maia discovers a bad cut beneath his left eye. After a check from the doctor, they start standing, and they trade once before Maia realizes his mistake and starts them from the canvas with Bontorin in half-guard. Bontorin immediately goes to pass, and Paiva gets up quickly. Bontorin goes headhunting and lands a knee in close before another shot sets up a huge takedown attempt. Paiva scrambles to the back and can’t hang on as Bontorin spins him around and dumps him to the canvas. Again, Maia stops the fight. Now, he wants doctors to check a horrible cut to Paiva’s face. It’s a big one, and in a really bad spot, and doctors call it off. Quite a turn of events for Bontorin, who gets the doctor’s stoppage TKO.

Geraldo de Freitas vs. Chris Gutierrez

Round 1 – Freitas tests the waters with a big left hook and jabs. Gutierrez inches in and feints to draw a reaction. Freitas fires back on his first leg kick, and he resets. Freitas headhunting again as Gutierrez works the legs. Heavy body hooks from Freitas. Gutierrez continues to sting the legs, and his first punches land. A spinning kick is nearly intercepted by Freita’s fists. Freitas comes charging and puts a right hand on target. Gutierrez resets and continues to snipe from the outside as Freitas closes. Leg kick prompts a charge from Freitas who powers into the clinch and can’t convert a single leg to a takedown. Gutierrez back on his bike, moving laterally as Freitas jams. Nice right from Gutierrez as Freitas fails to protect himself after a spin kick. Gutierrez gets foot-swept, and Freitas moves into the clinch. A body lock isn’t good enough to get it done, and they muscle for position against the fence. Freitas gets his first takedown with 15 seconds to go. A few punches and elbows end things. MMA Junkie scores the frame 10-9 for Freitas.

Round 2 – Gutierrez goes back to the legs and starts to move forward, looking for opportunities. A kick sweeps Freitas briefly, and he goes on the offensive. He’s looking to counter those low kicks, and Gutierrez is proving to be an elusive target. He has Gutierrez cornered and fires off a punch before a low kick forces a pause. Freitas right bkac on the charge and shoots. Gutierrez shucks it, and Freitas wings heavy hooks before pushing into the clinch again. Gutierrez low kick sweeps Freitas again. He charges into the clinch and gets Gutierrez to the mat with half of the round left. Pass attempt morphs to ground and pound. Freitas wants his legs free, but Gutierrez won’t let him get past half-guard. Freitas passes to side control and Gutierrez scrambles up. Freitas tries to take the back, and Gutierrez reverses in a scramble to get dominant position. He stands up and kicks the leg before punching the body. Freitas grabs for his body and sits back as the two stalemate. Herdy thinking about a standup. Gutierrez not committing to striking or kicking. Freitas grabs a leg and pushes for a takedown, prompting Gutierrez to sit into guard. Elbow for Gutierrez ends the frame, and MMA Junkie gives him the round 10-9 for the 19-19 tie.

Round 3 – Freitas forward early and draws a counter. He leaps in and nearly avoids a jumping knee. Gutierrez fighting backward very well and dodges a takedown. Freitas relentless and finally puts his hands on his opponent. A calf kick stops Freitas in his track, and Gutierrez is again standing overhead, kicking the legs. Freitas sitting up, his nose bleeding. Stalemate as Gutierrez contemplates his next move. Herdy steps in and calls timeout for the doctor to check on Gutierrez. Gutierrez pops the leg on the restart as Freitas pressures him. Freitas moves to the clinch and gets turned against the fence. Gutierrez uses a fence and a sprawl to keep Freitas at distance, and again, he’s standing overhead. Freitas butt-scoots forward and finally stands. Freitas wings more hooks and misses, then goes down with another calf kick. Back to the same position, and Herdy stands Freitas. Spinning backfist almost off from Freitas. Gutierrez trying to fight smart as his opponent pressures. Freitas walks into a spin and eats a kick. Freitas connects with a few shots, and he’s still on the move. He’s got one minute left and he won’t be denied. Gutierrez’s head movement is good enough to avoid most of the worst shots. He sticks a few rights as Freitas comes in, but it’s not enough to stop his foe in his tracks. Freitas is wearing him down, continuing to fire big hooks. A final shot from the Brazilian sends them both tumbling to the canvas as the fight ends. MMA Junkie scores the frame 10-9 for Gutierrez, who gets the 29-28 call.

Kazula Vargas vs. Alex da Silva

Round 1 – Vargas comes out swinging early and draws a takedown from Silva, who fires and elbow and works to pass guard. He’s stuck in Vargas’ guard briefly before passing and punching down. Silva takes the back in transition and attempts to secure hooks as Vargas fights the hands. Vargas fails to spin into guard and goes back to defending his neck as Silva sits back against the fence. Punches to the head from Silva to soften up for the choke. Vargas again tries to spin out, but Silva keeps him in place and continues to angle for the rear-naked choke. Body triangle helps his case, and he snakes an arm around. Vargas keeping his neck scarce with one minute to go. Silva attacks his opponent’s airway and then punches to try and make something happen. Finally, Vargas seizes an opening and spins into guard punching away as Silva attempts to mimimize the damage by bicycling his legs. Vargas steps back and clowns his opponent, but there’s still a few seconds to go, so Silva pops up. Bell rings before they can go again. MMA Junkie scores the frame 10-9 for Silva.

Round 2 – Vargas again invites the slugfest and plants a jumping front kick on Silva’s chin. Silva takes it and goes to the legs and body with his kicks before a reset. Vargas grabs a leg in transition and winds up on bottom. Silva goes to work witih ground and pound and fights off a sweep, getting to Vargas’ back. He rides the position as Vargas attempts to get up and pushes his foe into guard. Silva working on top with punches and elbow. Vargas tries for an arm and transitions to a triangle setup. No way, and Silva continues to pound. Vargas rolls to his hands and knees and Silva moves to the back, pounding away with punches. Another choke attempt, and Vargas is taking more shots. He moves to his back and Silva settles into half-guard. Short shots from up top as Vargas locks down a leg. Time runs out, and MMA Junkie scores the frame 10-9 for Silva for the 20-18 lead.

Round 3 – Vargas working the counter as Silva probes with punches and kicks. Silva cutting the angle to get away from Vargas’ power side. Vargas with spinning kick, then a charge that Silva dodges. Silva catches Vargas coming in, and he winds up on top in the subsequent collision. Back where we’ve been for two rounds, with Silva putting punches and elbows on his target. Vargas grabs a leg for a white belt leg lock, and Silva doesn’t blink. Left hands from Silva in half-guard, and Vargas goes for the kimura. That exposes him to more punches, so he covers up. Scooting to the fence, he tries to stand and gets dragged back to the canvas. Silva at the back with a body lock, and he again dumps Vargas. One more stand for Vargas before time runs out, and Silva gets the 10-9 for the 30-27 shutout.

Veronica Macedo vs. Polyana Viana

Round 1 – Viana closes early with a body kick and doubles up, drawing a spinning back kick that prompts her to shoot. Easy takedown, and Macedo is looking for an armbar. Viana easily out and traps an arm while trying to advance. Macedo again goes for the arm and cranks. Viana tries to roll out, but Macedo makes a quick adjustment and stretches out the limb, forcing Viana to tap. Impressive start to the card.
