UFC on ESPN+ 14 post-event facts: Valentina Shevchenko, Liz Carmouche record dubious low for strikes

The UFC made its debut in Uruguay on Saturday with UFC on ESPN+ 14, which took place at Antel Arena in Montevideo with a 13-fight lineup that streamed on ESPN+.

One of the UFC’s most dominant champions lived up to her reputation in the main event. Valentina Shevchenko (18-3 MMA, 7-2 UFC) kept her firm hold on the UFC women’s flyweight belt with a unanimous decision victory over Liz Carmouche (13-7 MMA, 5-5 UFC).

Although the card wasn’t the deepest in terms of meaningful bouts, there were some notable results to come out of it. For more on the numbers, check below for nearly 50 post-event facts to come out of UFC on ESPN+ 14.

General

The UFC Promotional Guidelines Compliance payout for the event totaled $191,500.

Debuting fighters went 3-2 at the event.

Vicente Luque, Mike Perry, Volkan Oezdemir and Veronica Macedo earned $50,000 UFC on ESPN+ 14 fight-night bonuses.

UFC on ESPN+ 14 drew an announced attendance of 9,225. No live gate was revealed for the card.

Betting favorites went 8-5 on the card.

Betting favorites improved to 12-13 (one fight had one even odds) in UFC headliners this year.

Total fight time for the 13-bout card was 2:37:14.

Main card

Shevchenko improved to 4-0 since she dropped to the UFC flyweight division in February 2018.

Shevchenko’s two consecutive UFC women’s flyweight title defenses are most in divisional history.

Shevchenko’s four-fight UFC winning streak in women’s flyweight competition is the longest active streak in the division.

Shevchenko’s four victories in UFC women’s flyweight competition are tied with Gillian Robertson for most in divisional history.

Shevchenko has completed at least one takedown against eight of her nine UFC opponents.

Shevchenko and Carmouche combined for 60 significant strikes landed, the third fewest in a modern-era UFC title fight that went all five rounds. Only Sean Sherk vs. Hermes Franca (41) and Demetrious Johnson vs. Tim Elliott (52) had less.

Carmouche fell to 2-2 since she dropped to the UFC flyweight division in December 2017.

Carmouche has suffered five of her seven career losses by decision.

Luque’s (17-6-1 MMA, 10-2 UFC) six-fight UFC winning streak in welterweight competition is tied for the sixth longest active streak in the division behind Kamaru Usman (10), Leon Edwards (eight), Santiago Ponzinibbio (seven), Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos (seven) and Colby Covington (seven).

Luque earned his first decision victory since June 21, 2014 – a span of 1,876 days (more than five years) and 12 fights.

Perry (13-5 MMA, 6-5 UFC) fell to 2-4 in his past six fights dating back to December 2017.

Perry has suffered four of his five career losses by decision.

Eduardo Garagorri (12-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) became the first Uruguayan fighter in history to earn a UFC win.

Humberto Bandenay’s (14-7 MMA, 1-3 UFC) three-fight losing skid is the longest of his career. He hasn’t earned a victory since August 2017.

Oezdemir (16-4 MMA, 4-3 UFC) has earned 13 of his 16 career victories by stoppage. He’s finished 12 of those wins by knockout.

Ilir Latifi (14-7 MMA, 7-5 UFC) suffered consecutive losses for the first time in his career. He hasn’t earned a victory since February 2018.

Latifi has suffered all of his career stoppage losses by knockout.

Rodolfo Vieira (6-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) has earned all six of his career victories by stoppage.

Oskar Piechota (11-2-1 MMA, 2-2 UFC) has suffered three consecutive losses after starting his career on a 12-fight unbeaten streak.

Piechota has suffered both of his career losses by submission.

Enrique Barzola (16-4-1 MMA, 6-2 UFC) has earned all six of his UFC victories by decision.

Barzola’s 35 takedowns landed in UFC featherweight competition are third most in divisional history behind Dennis Bermudez (46) and Darren Elkins (40).

Bobby Moffett (14-5 MMA, 1-2 UFC) suffered consecutive losses for the first time in his career. He hasn’t earned a victory since November.

Moffett has suffered four of his five career losses by decision.

Preliminary card

Gilbert Burns (16-3 MMA, 9-3 UFC) was successful in his return to the welterweight division. He’s 2-0 when fighting at the weight class.

Aleksei Kunchenko (20-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) had his 20-fight winning streak snapped for the first defeat of his career.

Ciryl Gane (4-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) has earned all four of his career victories by stoppage.

Raphael Pessoa (9-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) had his nine-fight winning streak snapped for the first defeat of his career.

Tecia Torres’ (10-5 MMA, 6-5 UFC) four-fight losing skid is the longest of her career. She hasn’t earned a victory since December 2017.

Torres’ four-fight losing skid in UFC strawweight competition is tied with Kailin Curran for longest in divisional history.

Torres has suffered all five of her career losses by decision.

Rogerio Bontorin (16-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC) has earned 14 of his 16 career victories by stoppage.

Raulian Paiva (18-3 MMA, 0-2 UFC) suffered consecutive losses for the first time in his career. He hasn’t earned a victory since August 2018.

Paiva suffered the first loss of his career to stemming from strikes.

Chris Gutierrez (14-4-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) has earned both of his UFC victories by decision.

Geraldo de Freitas (12-5 MMA, 1-1 UFC) has suffered all five of his career losses by decision.

Alex Da Silva (21-2 MMA, 1-1 UFC) earned the first decision victory of his career. His previous 20 wins came by stoppage.

Macedo (6-3-1 MMA, 1-3 UFC) snapped her four-fight winless skid for her first victory since July 2016.

Macedo improved to 1-2 since she dropped to the UFC women’s flyweight division in May 2018.

Polyana Viana’s (10-4 MMA, 1-3 UFC) three-fight losing skid is the longest of her career. She hasn’t earned a victory since February 2018.

Viana suffered the first submission loss of her career.
