UFC’s Frank Camacho provides health update following multi-vehicle crash

UFC lightweight Frank Camacho seems in good spirits after a dangerous incident on Tuesday.

After a year away from the cage, Camacho (22-9 MMA, 2-5 UFC) was set to return at UFC 263 on Saturday evening to face Matt Frevola. That was before a scary car crash on Tuesday morning in California changed those plans.

Camacho released the following statement on Instagram Tuesday evening:

Thank you very much to everyone who reached out to my team and I, we very much appreciate your support and well wishes. Unfortunately I was in a serious multi-vehicle collision this morning. I’m a little beat up from the accident, and I’m absolutely heartbroken to have to withdraw from my fight Saturday at UFC 263.

But I’m very grateful to walk away from the accident in one piece, and I know this is just a detour in my fighting career. I’d like to extend my apologies for the inconvenience this accident has brought upon my opponent and the UFC, and my wife Sarah and I would like to sincerely thank everyone for their concern and support at this time.

While details surrounding the crash were unclear when the news initially broke, a passenger that was alongside Camacho provided details. The Guam Daily Post reported Cuki Alvarez posted details from the accident on his Instagram story, stating that Camacho suffered herniation on the C7 and T1 vertebrae.

According to Alvarez, Camacho was treated at the Los Alamitos Medical Center in Los Alamitos, Calif. where he underwent a CT scan and X-rays which showed inflammation in ligaments in his neck. An MRI later revealed the herniated discs.

Camacho appears to be in good spirits following the accident, as he now shifts his focus from fighting at UFC 263 to recovering from the injuries sustained.
