Unbeaten Jack Shore would put his rear-naked choke up against any UFC bantamweight

ABU DHABI – Jack Shore beat Aaron Phillips with a second-round submission Wednesday to open the preliminary card at UFC on ESPN 13 in Abu Dhabi.

Take a look inside the fight with Shore, an 8-1 favorite who stayed unbeaten and got his 12th finish in 13 fights.

Result: Jack Shore def. Aaron Phillips via submission (rear-naked choke) – Round 2, 2:29
Updated records: Shore (13-0 MMA, 2-0 UFC), Phillips (12-4 MMA, 0-3 UFC)
Key stat: Shore landed three takedowns and outstruck Phillips 42-7.

Shore on the fight’s key moment

“I honestly believe if I get in that position on anyone in the division, they’re in trouble. That’s my go-to (submission). I’m very dangerous from that top position, especially in MMA with the ground-and-pound and the elbows. When I lock that body triangle in and they start to go belly down and turtle up, I know the end is near then.”

Shore on fighting off cage rust

“It was a good performance, all in all. I felt a little sloppy at the beginning of the first. … The fight week’s been tough with the time change, the change of opponents, and also I’ve been out of the cage about 10 months now. … It took me a minute or two to get in the flow.”

Shore on what he wants next

“I’m in non rush. I’m 25 years of age (and) I’ve got 13 pro fights and 12 finishes. What I’m doing at the minute is obviously working. I don’t want to be one of those guys banging a fight out for the sake of it because I need the money. I want to bring a better package to the octagon ever single time. I want the next version of myself to be able to smash the me from this fight. … I’d like to fight again before the end of the year.”
