Video: Putting Jorge Masvidal’s career in perspective after retirement at UFC 287

"

Jorge Masvidal’s MMA career came to an end at UFC 287 where he announced his retirement following a unanimous decision loss to Gilbert Burns in his hometown of Miami.

Masvidal, 38, leaves on a four-fight losing streak that includes two title-fight defeats to then-welterweight champion Kamaru Usman, a lopsided decision against rival Colby Covington, and Saturday’s setback against Burns. Those four losses were Masvidal’s follow-up to a breakthrough 2019 when he knocked out Darren Till in London, landed a record 5-second knockout on Ben askren, and defeated Nate Diaz in their “BMF” title fight at UFC 244.

Masvidal, who garnered street cred as a backyard brawler in Miami, decided to call it quits just a couple months shy of 20 years as a professional in which he posted a 35-17 record over 52 career fights.

Was the timing right for Masvidal’s retirement? And how do you view his legacy in the sport?

Our “Spinning Back Clique” panel of Danny Segura, Brian “Goze” Garcia and “Gorgeous” George Garcia answered those questions with host Mike Bohn. You can watch their discussion in the video above and check out this week’s full episode below.
