Dillon Danis is apparently facing some trouble with the law.
On Monday, video of Danis surfaced on social media, which shows the Bellator fighter struggling with police and security as he’s handcuffed, lifted off the ground, and taken into custody by an officer outside of an establishment believed to be the Beachcomber Bar and Grill in Seaside Heights, N.J., this past weekend.
An unconfirmed mug shot of Danis with the Seaside Heights Police Department label also surfaced on social media. MMA Junkie called the Seaside Heights Police Department’s records division Monday and left a message that has not been returned at this time.
In the eyewitness video, Danis is wearing a brace on his right leg outside of his pants. A woman can be heard uttering “oh no, baby” in a sarcastic tone and laughing as Danis is taken away.
Danis hasn’t commented on the situation on social media. His most recent Instagram post as of this writing, a picture with friend and teammate Conor McGregor, is dated Sept. 13. Danis’ most recent tweet is from Sept. 15.
Danis, a decorated Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt and former champion, has been unable to get his MMA career off the ground. The 28-year-old is 2-0 with two submissions in Bellator but hasn’t fought since June 2019.
Danis had been scheduled to fight in January 2020 at Bellator 238, but he withdrew from the card after injuring his knee while helping McGregor prepare for his UFC 246 fight against Donald Cerrone. Danis underwent reconstructive surgery in March 2020.
It’s unclear if the brace worn by Danis in the arrest video is to his originally injured leg or if he suffered a new injury.
In the time since his surgery, Danis hasn’t been booked by Bellator, although he was linked to a potential boxing match with Jake Paul after the two engaged in a months-long feud on social media, which included a staged attack by Paul.
UPDATE: Danis shared some cryptic words on Twitter minutes after this story was published:
